ALEJANDRO PINTADO
He studied a Bachelor‘s degree in Fine Arts at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving "La Esmeralda" in Mexico City and a Master‘s degree in Visual Arts at Goldsmiths College in England. Alejandro Pintado‘s research revolves around the historical memory of the landscape and its transformation over time. To this end he has set himself the task of revisiting and subsequently editing the work of artists such as Claude Lorraine (1600-1682), Mortitz Rugendas (1802-1858) and José María Velasco (1840-1912). Pintado takes up certain aspects of these artists‘ work by selecting pristine landscapes and then intervening in them with contemporary objects. This confrontation of dissonant elements alludes to the notion of modernity in which all eras of history coincide in the same moment. In Pintado‘s work the presence of nature contrasted with artificiality is somewhat ambiguous; it is not clear whether the landscape dominates the artificiality or whether nature has invaded these constructed spaces.
